About the Opportunity
Latino Legends is hiring a Senior Data Engineer for a high-impact data transformation engagement with a global hospitality organization operating across multiple countries in the Americas and Europe.
This role will play a key part in designing and owning the data ingestion layer within Microsoft Fabric, helping consolidate operational data from approximately 24 source systems into a centralized warehouse environment. You’ll join a senior delivery team responsible for standing up the ingestion foundation end-to-end, while a separate downstream analytics partner handles modeling, BI, and reporting.
This is a hands-on, senior-level engagement best suited for someone who is highly experienced with Microsoft Fabric, lakehouse architecture, data warehousing patterns, and source-to-warehouse ingestion design.
What You’ll Do
As the Senior Data Engineer, you will own the Microsoft Fabric landing zone architecture, extraction framework, and warehouse-facing ingestion layer. Your work will directly shape how source data is landed, standardized, documented, and delivered for downstream consumption.
Key Responsibilities
Design and configure Microsoft Fabric workspace topology across development, staging, and production environments
Define and implement OneLake structure, storage patterns, and capacity sizing
Establish Bronze landing zone standards, including:
Parquet / Delta formats
Partitioning strategy
Schema-on-read patterns
Raw payload preservation
Build and manage Data Factory pipelines, including:
Scheduling conventions
Dependency graphs
Backfill processes
Configure and maintain native Microsoft connectors for key business systems (e.g. Salesforce, Dataverse, and similar platforms)
Define and document per-source extraction specifications across approximately 24 operational systems
Partner with downstream analytics stakeholders to define the Bronze-to-Silver / warehouse consumption contract
Manage schema evolution, time-travel configuration, and table optimization / retention strategies
Produce as-built documentation, handoff materials, runbooks, and architecture references
Lead an audit of the existing Fabric tenant and ingestion setup during the initial phase of the engagement
What We’re Looking For
Required Experience
7+ years of experience in data engineering
2+ years of hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience (or equivalent direct lakehouse platform ownership, though Fabric experience is strongly required)
Strong experience building and operating data ingestion pipelines and warehouse landing zones
Deep understanding of medallion architecture, especially Bronze / landing layer design
Advanced knowledge of:
Delta Lake / Parquet
Schema evolution
Partitioning
Time travel
OPTIMIZE / VACUUM and related maintenance patterns
Experience with CDC / change data capture patterns from systems such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar event/change-streaming setups
Expert-level SQL skills, including T-SQL and Spark SQL
Strong understanding of data warehouse schema design, naming conventions, and data contract design
Ability to create clear technical documentation, including:
ingestion specifications
architecture diagrams
handoff documents
runbooks
Professional fluency in English
Preferred / Nice to Have
Experience working with hospitality, travel, or operational multi-entity business data, such as reservation systems, POS, PMS, HR, or similar operational platforms
Experience auditing or optimizing existing Microsoft Fabric environments
Strong background in pipeline observability, including freshness monitoring, schema drift detection, and API quota / ingestion monitoring
Familiarity with Purview or similar governance / metadata tools, including PII classification at landing
Spanish or Italian language skills are a plus
Microsoft certifications such as:
Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
Azure Data Engineer Associate
Core Tech Stack
Microsoft Fabric (OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory)
Delta Lake
Parquet
Spark
T-SQL
Python
CDC tooling (e.g. Debezium, SQL Server CDC)
Power BI semantic models

Engagement Context
This role is part of a senior four-person delivery team supporting a large-scale data ingestion initiative for a multi-country hospitality business. The project focuses on centralizing operational data from approximately 24 source systems into a Microsoft Fabric data warehouse, using a phased delivery approach.
The team owns the ingestion layer end-to-end, including source extraction, landing zone design, warehouse delivery structure, and technical handoff. Downstream modeling, BI, and analytics are managed by a separate analytics partner.
Team Structure
Reports to the engagement’s Fractional vCTO
Works alongside other senior technical contributors across architecture, backend / DevOps, and domain advisory functions
Important Notes
Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience is non-negotiable for this role. Candidates with only general Azure, Databricks, or traditional data engineering experience without Fabric exposure will not be considered a fit.
This is a full-time engagement and is not compatible with other active client projects or part-time commitments
Hospitality data experience is strongly preferred
